Multi Tube Manometers

Multi Tube Manometer allows up to 16 pressures to be monitored simultaneously either relative to atmospheric pressure or another pressure, via the common reservoir. In order to increase the device sensitivity the device may be inclined at a known angle.
Multi Tube Manometers are highly useful for capturing pressure distributions from multiple pressure ports on bodies subjected to air flow past them. The adjustable inclination of Multi Tube Manometer helps in enhancing the contrast in the distribution. 
A Multi Tube Manometer with a common reservoir, that may be used to give a graphic display of pressure distribution on multi-point pressure tapings.

Bernoulli Apparatus

The apparatus is designed to be used on the working surface of the basic Air Flow Bench and connected by convoluted hose to the 70 mm dia. blown experiment duct on the fan outlet. However, it may be used as a standalone unit by connecting it to any suitable fan with an air supply of approximately 500 litre/sec. at 600 Pascals and by utilising appropriate manometers. A pitot static tube is fitted at the outlet end of the venturi duct and this can be traversed longitudinally along the centre line to enable its measuring tip to be positioned at various points. The apparatus comprises an acrylic duct with the upper and lower surfaces in opaque material and the sides clear. The whole unit forms a 60 x 50 mm rectangular cross section converging to a 20 x 50 mm throat area then diverging back to 60 x 50 mm section at the exit plane. Measured positions are obtained against two scales positioned on opposite sides of the duct to avoid parallax errors. A plot of typical results which can be obtained is shown in the graph. The scales are marked in millimetres but are reversible to show imperial measurements.

In carrying out the experiment the student is able to verify Bernoullis Theorem which, in its wider form, states that: At any point in a tube through which a fluid is flowing, the sum of pressure energy, potential energy and kinetic energy is constant.

Air Flow Bench

The Air Flow Bench consists of a welded steel frame, Air Flow Bench - General assembly with accessories mounted on castors, and provides two work surfaces for experiments and integral storage space. The ductwork supplied with the Air Flow Bench is manufactured in aluminium sections assembled by deep spigoted sockets, sealed by O rings and clamped by quickrelease over-centre toggle latches. The duct work includes flow straighteners and an adjustable discharge valve. A tangential fan (i.e. fitted with a narrow chord centrifugal impellor), directly driven from a single phase induction motor, provides the necessary air flow for experiments. The fan is capable of providing a flow of 500 litres/second at a static pressure rise of 800 Pascals. The instrumentation supplied with the Air Flow Bench comprises a digital manometer, barometer, conical inlet flow measuring device, and pitot static tube for traversing the duct. An electrical enclosure is mounted on the upper work surface and contains the fan contactor, fan start and stop pushbuttons, and provides electrical power for optional additional equipment. An optional data logging system with various modules is available to provide 0-10V dc analogue outputs of all measurements for interfacing to a computer system.
