The cold box handles made of durable and strong material, and which are fixed in a manner that will withstand the total weight of the loaded cold box.
The internal thermal insulation has sufficiently low thermal conductivity to allow maintaining the required cold life of at least 48 hours for short range and 96 hours for the long range type
The device withstand storage and usage at an external ambient temperature from -10oC to +45oC
The device is robust enough to withstand shocks caused by accidental drops or knocks and not be damaged due to vibrations of the type caused by road transport
The device is a thermally insulated container, having an internal vaccine storage volume between 4 and 20 L for the short range and 5 and 25 liters for the long range, excluding space to place the recommended number of ice/cool packs of standard WHO approved type.
The device/cold box safely maintain the vaccines within the recommended temperature limits ( -20°C to +8°C using frozen IP only for OPV and +2°C to +8°C using Cool Packs for all other vaccines) while being transported from the point of loading to the point of unloading
The thermal insulation is produced using chemicals that do not belong to the family of CFC (chemicals specified in annexure A & B of the Montreal Protocol)
The device has an external lid that can be safely closed and remain closed on suffering accidental drops and knocks
The internal dimensions of the device is sufficient to accommodate the largest tolerance.

The lid of the device meet the walls with a labyrinth seal to minimize the cold bridge and to maximize structural strength when closed
